A bicycle rider in the annual Triathlon was struck by a motorist as he slowed on the ascent to Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston. The victim of the bike crash Sunday at Ridge Heights Road leading to Seahawk Lane and South Lakes High School contacted sports injury lawyer Doug Landau this week. The triathlete sustained multiple injuries in the incident and was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. According to preliminary information gleaned by the Landau Law Shop, the car came from a side street during the 26th annual Reston Triathlon. THe Race organizers had done their usual excellent job of marking roads, placing cones, having police protection and even blinking warning signs in the days prior to the event warning local residents of the upcoming triathlon. The motorist blocked the path of the cyclists heading toward the High School transition area. The experienced multi-sport athlete was grateful for those who came to his immediate aid and for the speed with which the police and rescuers were on the scene. Excellent training by Fairfax County first responders and law enforcement enabled the injured athlete to be taken to the emergency room quickly.
