New York Times interviews injury lawyer athlete Doug Landau

Comments Off

Always a big fan of the New York Times sports pages, I was surprised when I was contacted last Thursday night and asked about my practice in the courts and on the race courses. Recounting my representation of disabled triathletes, bikers, swimmers and other injured athletes, we also talked about how it helps me to be a better lawyer at Abrams Landau, Ltd. In a piece titled "Leaving the Locker Room for a Law Firm" the writer John Eligon interviewed several lawyers who are full time lawyers and yet still compete at a high level in various sports.

While I have decried the violence in sports and professional ice hockey in particular, the piece features a hockey fight where one of the referees is left laying on the ice, apparently from a severe injury. There is a suggestion by the broadcasters that his hand was run over by a skate ! I hope that the ref in question has recovered from his injuries and that the combatants were severely punished. Rather than needless injury to sports participants, perhaps future pieces will look at women who are also able to balance sports and the law, and highlight their accomplishments on and in the court !
