Free Lawyer Referral for Wage and Family Medical Leave Claims

Comments Off

The U.S. Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division will be collaborating with the American Bar Association ("ABA") in a new Lawyer referral service. Workers with unresolved complaints under the Fair Labor Standards Act or the Family Medical Leave Act will get a letter explaining their legal rights and offering a toll free telephone number linking them to an ABA approved lawyer referral program. If the worker sues and wins, they have a right to statutory attorney fees.

Lawyer Referral Programs approved by the State, Local and National Bar Associations provide a valuable service to the public and the courts. Herndon trial lawyer Doug Landau belongs to several official bar association referral services. The Fairfax County, Virginia State Lawyer Referral Service, Alexandria Virginia, NOSSCR, Florida Out of State Lawyer Referral program and the DC Trial Lawyers Referral Panel are examples of the official group referral services that the Herndon law firm ABRAMS LANDAU received cases from in the past. The Landau Law Shop in return pays either a set fee to these services or a percentage of the fee if the claim is successful. Since the attorney fees are usually on a contingency fee basis, this means that the injured worker or disabled person pays no money unless injury lawyer Landau is successful on their behalf. These services usually provide callers with the names of lawyers who are members of the bar in good standing, insured and experienced in the area of law needed. Some of these associations then use this money to support the law libraries, law foundations that provide legal assistance to the poor, or to pay for staffing this important public service. When someone calls ABRAMS LANDAU for assistance in an area of the law where the firm does not know of a qualified lawyer in the geographical area, Law Shop staff will often give out the appropriate Bar Referral Service contact information.
