ABRAMS LANDAU sponsoring Equal Justice America law student

Comments Off

Equal Justice America is an independent non-profit corporation established in 1993. EJA has become a national leader in providing opportunities for law students to work with organizations that deliver civil legal services to those most in need. Thus exposes future lawyers to the urgency for pro bono assistance to our most vulnerable citizens. Equal Justice America has sponsored fellowships for more than 2,500 law students to work with over 250 legal services organizations across the country. Students at more than 70 law schools now have the opportunity to take part in the Equal Justice America Fellowship Program. These law students can help low income residents get food stamps, unemployment insurance and other civil assistance as reported in the Richmond Times Dispatch.

The Herndon law firm ABRAMS LANDAU, Ltd. is sponsoring a student to help continue Equal Justice America’sw important work. Founding partner Doug Landau worked as the first law clerk of the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice (now "Public Justice") after graduate school (and before attending the University of Miami School of Law) and also interned for the American Association for Justice at their former headquarters in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. "It is important for law students to give back to the community, to learnt to help real people with real problems and not just solve hypothetical cases in the classroom. Having actually tried cases while in my third year as an intern at the Florida State’s Attorney’s Office provided me with extraordinary experience and helped me become a more effective trial lawyer for injured victims, disabled workers and their families. Everyone at Abrams Landau hopes that donating this money will enable the non-profit’s legal talent to help people in need just as the Ashburn, Ashburton and Sterling Virginia law firm does every day.
