Social Security Disability – What is it? Can you qualify?

Comments Off

You may be eligible for social security disability benefits if you have a medical condition that prevents you from working for at least 12 months or is terminal. Individuals with partial disability or short-term disability do not qualify to receive social security disability benefits.

In addition to meeting the medical disability requirement, one must have worked enough quarters and paid into the Social Security System to be eligible to be paid benefits. A "quarter" is merely a social security term indicating a measurement of time – there are four quarters in a year. You must have worked five out of the ten years prior to becoming disabled in order to have enough earnings in the system to potentially qualify for Social Security disability benefits.

If you or someone you know may be eligible for Social Security disability benefits, contact our office. We will be glad to answer your questions and assist with processing the claim.
