Reporting Drunk Drivers in Virginia

Comments Off

New Year’s Day has proven to be one of the deadliest driving days of the year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 468 persons were killed in U.S. traffic crashes during last year’s New Year’s Day. Of those deaths, 40% were killed by drunk drivers.

While alcohol-related traffic fatalities dropped last year at both the national level and in Virginia, according to the Fairfax Times, such booze-fueled highway deaths actually increased in Fairfax County — by nearly 54% ! In fact, Fairfax County’s 20 drunk-driving deaths last year was the highest number of such traffic fatalities since 2007. Today, the scourge of drunk driving on Fairfax County’s roadways is evident in Fairfax County law enforcement last year making an arrest for driving under the influence more often than every three hours, on average.

All drunk-driving incidents are 100 percent preventable. In the next post, we will look at some of the recommended ways to ensure your and your family’s safety.
